Let’s dive deep into the world of The Boy who Lived, aka Harry Potter.
All the characters in this magical, fantastical world imagined by Joanne Katherine Rowling have succeeded in making all the Potter-heads obsessed with all the 7 books, including me :).
All the magical( and funny) characters and creatures made up in the mind of J.K. Rowling have made the books so magical so when we read, it’s like the whole world comes alive in our head!
The first ever book, The Philosopher’s Stone, introduced me to Harry’s foster family, the Muggle Dursleys. They were ” the last people you’d expect to be involved in anything strange or mysterious, because they just did NOT hold with such nonsense.”
When letters start to pour down the kitchen chimney, the Dursleys run from home, but the letters find them, along with the half-giant* Rubeus Hagrid. And Hagrid takes Harry to Diagon Alley, the shopping stop for future witches and wizards. There Harry gets his owl( Hedwig ) and his wand, and the other thingamajigs for witches/wizards.
After all that, Harry gets the train ticket to platform 9 and 3/4. He meets the Weasley family, his best friend Ron’s family. They board the train together and they meet Hermione Granger, after that Draco Malfoy. Harry, Ron and Hermione get sorted into the Gryffindor house, which is known for bravery.
SPOILER ALERT!!:Malfoy challenged Harry and his friends to a duel at midnight! But P.S: The hated Argus Filch caught them and sadly, DETENTION!!
SPOILER ALERT2: The Defense against the Dark Arts professor, Quirrell, acts like-you guessed it right-a squirrel! But he’s possessed by the Dark Lord- VOLDEMORT. (Sorry)
Harry defeats Quirrell and recovers the Philosopher’s Stone( but Voldemort survives. BUMMER!).
What I loved about this book is:
Harry, in spite of all the hardships is so full of positivity and forward looking. I could see the seeds of friendship blooming between Harry, Ron and Hermione and how that went on to shape much of the latter books.
